Into the Wild

Into the Wild

What is the movie's name?

Into the Wild.

"After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life. "~IMDb

Who is your favorite character in this movie, and why?

Carine McCandless, Chris' younger sister.

First of all, I have a brother, too, and he left home and live alone.

When Chris left home, the only one that afford the pressure and comfort their parents is Carine. I think she is as great as her brother, because she needs to handle everything Chris left behind, and fight back the reality while her brother escaped from it.

What have you learned from this movie?

Somebody envy Chris original life, top university, rich family, nice car, in fact, he could own whatever he wants, but this is not his ideal life.He wants nature, and wild, just wild, the primitive state of the world.

Is there anything you want to do differently if you were the character?

Yes.
If I were Christopher, I would at least talk in to my parents beforehand.
I am not saying that Chris is not responsible for his family, I could understand that he wants to leave everything behind, and embrace the nature. But I would like to say goodbye to the loved ones before I leave.

Did you learn anything new about you after watching this movie?

I've always dreamed another life that I were living in the wild, there's no society, no friends,no family, you only have yourself.
Can I tolerate the lonely life? Can I survive the difficult situation without others' help? To make an ordinary choice is way more easy than a unique one.

Which scene or song or any part of the movie that you like the best? Talk about it.

My favorite scene is the very last scene of this movie. He looked away with tears streams down his face. He was imaging a totally different life,"What if I were smiling and running into your arms? Would you see then what I see now?" It is shocking and make me think about this question, what if Chris never leave his house, what would his life become?

Additional comments?

This movie is based on a true story, so there's is a book about Chris' adventure, go find and read it to get more information about his legendary!

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

What is the movie's name?

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

"When his job along with that of his co-worker are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined."~IMDb

Who is your favorite character in this movie, and why?

Sean Penn as Sean O'Connell the photojournalist in the movie.
He is the most mysterious character in the movie, and whose whereabouts is always unknown. He can be a city and be another city in the next moment.
And I really admire his attitude toward life, he sees and feels the beauty of the world with his ultimate effort.

What have you learned from this movie?

All my life, I was too afraid of trying new things , just like the old Mitty, who is always day-dreaming and got nothing to be done.
If you want change, you must take  a step out.
If you fall down, don't worry, the world will catch.

Is there anything you want to do differently if you were the character?

Yes.

If I were Walter Mitty, I will never ever use the online dating stuff.
Especially you are sending a "wink" to someone you've already know in real life, how embarrassing it is !

Did you learn anything new about you after watching this movie?

"To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer,to find each other and to feel. That is the purpose of life."
This quote was read in the Mitty's wallet, and it's really inspiring to me. I've always wanted to get out of my safe zone and to see what this world is like through my own eyes.
Though I was not sure whether it is the main purpose of one's life or not,  I believe that it is a worthy thing in my life.

Which scene or song or any part of the movie that you like the best? Talk about it.

The song by Jose Gonzalez, Stay Alive, is haunting me. It reminds me of the breath-taking scenery of Iceland, and always encourage me to take a chance and be risky about trying new things.

"But there is a truth and it's on our side

Dawn is coming open your eyes
Look into the sun as a new days rise"

Additional comments?

I've made up my mind and written in my bucket list: I must go visit Iceland before I die.

Imitation Game

Imitation Game

What is the movie's name?

Imitation Game.
"During World War II, mathematician Alan Turing tries to crack the enigma code with help from fellow mathematicians."~IMDb

Who is your favorite character in this movie, and why?

Turing by Benedict Cumberbatch.
If you are a huge fan of BBC Sherlocks Holmes, then you know how charming BC is, and in this movie, Turing is an intelligent but poor in social skills, you will be amazed by Benedict Cumberbatch's incredible acting.

What have you learned from this movie?

Nowadays, the LGBT right is still a controversial issue, not to mention the WW2 times.
I felt pity and sad about how society and government treated Turing as a monster, they ignored everything Turing has done for the country, only focused on his personal sexual orientation. It's a pathetic and wrongful thing.

Is there anything you want to do differently if you were the character?

Yes.
If I were anyone who is from the British government, I would just leave Turing alone, and not arrest him on trumped-up charge.

Did you learn anything new about you after watching this movie?

Be comprehensive.
Sometimes our values and believes come from social opinions and superstitions, and we just take in everything we got from others without thinking.
These irrational believes sometimes sabotage the relations between others or even make catastrophic damage.
Try to see from different angles, try to confront and suspect what you gain from others.

Which scene or song or any part of the movie that you like the best? Talk about it.

My favorite part of this movie is when Turing tries to show his friendliness and caring to his co-workers, he is shy and clumsy at showing his emotions, instead of saying thank you, he bought a bag of apples and sent to everyone. Everyone was surprised at his behavior, but all of them knew this is his unique way to express his gratefulness.

Additional comments?

Where there is Benedict Cumberbatch, where there is a good movie.

Still Alice

Still Alice

What is the movie's name?

Still Alice.

"A linguistics professor and her family find their bonds tested when she is diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease."~IMDb

Who is your favorite character in this movie, and why?

Alice.
She is elegant, wise and independent woman at the beginning, while she is diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, she showed vulnerability just like everyone else, but with supports from her family, the strength coming from deep in her heart, she can accept the difficult situation which she's facing.
I love her strong will and courage.

What have you learned from this movie?

We all fear that one day we would forget every piece of memory that we once owned, every knowledge that we learned from lives, experience. But the salient symptom of Alzheimer's Disease is losing memories. Alice is a prestigious professor in college, the knowledge she has in her domain is what she treasured the most, now she is losing it, it could be the most terrible thing for her, but then she realized that the most important thing is not her knowledge but the present.
Live in the present, live in the moment!

Is there anything you want to do differently if you were the character?

Yes.
If I were Alice, I won't make a "suicide record". I will never know where live would lead, and how my life would end. The only thing I could do is to enjoy everything  belongs to me now, I couldn't change anything, but I can feel them at this moment, even I would forget them next minute, at least I have tried, and there's no regrets behind.

Did you learn anything new about you after watching this movie?

When I studied this disease in my Abnormal Psychology, I couldn't imagine how it can change a person, after watching this movie, I realized that I have to use my brain more often to prevent this disease.

Which scene or song or any part of the movie that you like the best? Talk about it.

My favorite scene is when Alice went jogging near her house as usual, suddenly, her brain went blank, and she totally forgot the way home, the facial expression on Julianne Moore completely showed the anxiety of her, and I could feel the fear and confusion of Alice. I was stunned in the theater by her acting.

Additional comments?

You will definitely wish that you are as beautiful as Julianne Moore when you at her age.

Begin Again

Begin Again

What is the movie's name?

Begin Again.

"A chance encounter between a disgraced music-business executive and a young singer-songwriter new to Manhattan turns into a promising collaboration between the two talents."~IMDb

Who is your favorite character in this movie, and why?

Gretta.
I love her elegance and soul.
She is slim and feminine, but she shows strength in her own way.The way she sings is so unique, and fascinating, I always think there are two people in her body.

What have you learned from this movie?

I didn't know Keira Knightly can sing;
Adam Levine can act, and Mark Ruffalo is totally different from my mental image.

Is there anything you want to do differently if you were the character?

If I were Dan, I would drink less alcohol and tell his family what I really think, express my caring and love in more suitable way. Learn how to communicate and share the feeling with love ones.

Did you learn anything new about you after watching this movie?

I am obsessed with her meaningful glance in the film.
At the end of the movie, Gretta rides her bike and leave the bar, I think it's a look of firmness and forgiveness in her eyes. I really like her attitude toward the one she had loved before, neither hatred nor suffering, she really lets go of something haunting for a long time.

Which scene or song or any part of the movie that you like the best? Talk about it.

Lost stars sung by Adam Levine and/or Keira Knightly.
They sing in a totally different way, but both of them will touch your heart and moved to tears.
The most impressive part is when Dave tried to win back Gretta, he sang this song on the stage, Gretta gave him a smile at the dim place of the exit. It's subtle but meaningful, none of them speak, but both of them understand everything.

Go find all the songs in this movie, even if you have never seen it.

Godzilla

Godzilla

What is the movie's name?
Godzilla

"The world's most famous monster is pitted against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence."~IMDb

Who is your favorite character in this movie, and why?

Can I say a non-human character?
I would say Godzilla.
Because he is the coolest character in the movie!

What have you learned from this movie?

Sometime when you take action but don't succeed, what you need to do instead is patently wait for the best chance to fight back.

Is there anything you want to do differently if you were the character?

If I were Godzilla, I would let humans to beat the M.U.T.O.
Since human being can defeat anything magically anyway, I can just leave them alone.

Did you learn anything new about you after watching this movie?

First, I realize the power in life, the life force is stronger than I could have imagined.
Second, I found that your old enemies could be your helpful friends in the future, it's beyond controlled.
Last but not least, I think Godzilla is a movie about unconditional kindness. When someone hurt you so deep, you still repay evil with good, it's the most valuable lesson that I learned from Godzilla.

Which scene or song or any part of the movie that you like the best? Talk about it.

My favorite scene is when Godzilla fight back the M.U.T.O with some weird blue ray.
The view is just like Godzilla is vomiting, and I was totally shocked in the movie theater.

Additional comments?

I wish I could see Mothra in the next movie.

Amelie

 Amelie

 What is the movie's name?
Amelie.

"Amelie is an innocent and naive girl in Paris with her own sense of justice. She decides to help those around her and, along the way, discovers love."~IMDb

Who is your favorite character in this movie, and why?

Amelie.
I like her personality and her attitude toward life.
She always makes interesting and experimental plans, which is really fascinating to me!

What have you learned from this movie?

Life worth trying.

Is there anything you want to do differently if you were the character?

If I were Amélie, I might try to do something innovative things, but I won't be that encourage to purchase someone I like.

Did you learn anything new about you after watching this movie?

I hope I can make some experimental trials in life ,just like Amélie.

Which scene or song or any part of the movie that you like the best? Talk about it.

I like the songs from the movie. Especially
Comptine d'un autre été :La démarche and J'y Suis Jamais allé

They appear a lot in the movie. They are vivid. Every time I hear these songs, they remind me of this movie and how much I love this movie.

Additional comments?

I love Amélie!!!!

The Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our Stars

What is the movie's name?
The Fault in Our Stars.

"Two teens, both who have different cancer conditions, fall in love after meeting at a cancer support group."~IMDb

Who is your favorite character in this movie, and why?

Gus.
Why?
Handsome, outgoing, courageous, warm and sweet.
He is an ideal and dream boyfriend.

What have you learned from this movie?

Life is hard.
Most of time, we can decide what we gain or lose from life, but we can decide the way we see this world and our own life.

And just like the title of this movie, we all have fault in our own stars, but this imperfection is exactly what makes ourselves perfect.

Is there anything you want to do differently if you were the character?

Yes.
If I were Hazel, I won't change my memorial speech at the end. I want to say what I want to say, not what people want to hear. Even thought I know it is because Hazel realized that funeral is held for the people  who are still alive, but I would take the funeral as the connection between the one who passed away and myself.

Maybe I am not sure whether he/she could hear my voice, I would say what I really want to say.

Did you learn anything new about yourself after watching this movie?

Yes.
I found that I am a cry baby. I can't stop crying after the movie ends. I am surprised that I am so sentimental, though I'd always thought that I were a tough and calm person. But I like the way I show my feeling, I cry and cry in front of the monitor.

Which scene or song or any part of the movie that you like the best? Talk about it.

I really like the song, All the Star, which is from the movie's soundtrack. With the soft and warm tone of the singer, Ed Sheeran, whose voice brings me calm and serenity after crying  a lot for the end of the movie.

Before sunrise

Before Sunrise

What is the movie's name?

Before Sunrise

"A young man and woman meet on a train in Europe, and wind up spending one evening together in Vienna. Unfortunately, both know that this will probably be their only night together."~IMDb

Who is your favorite character in this movie, and why?

Jesse.

I like the way he talks to girls.
If you want to chase after the girl you like, Jesse is your model! Because I think the words and tones he speaks are what a girl would expect from a man, that's why I love this character.

What have you learned from this movie?

As I said for the last question, I've learned how to communicate with girls, since Jesse gives me so much inspiration, and I've known better about what a girl's expectations.

Is there anything you want to do differently if you were the character?

If I were Jesse, I would definitely ask Celine's(main actress) phone number, they thought that they would meet each other due to destiny, but it's uncertain and uncontrollable. Why not just ask for the phone number or address if you think the girl is the one?

Did you learn anything new about you after watching this movie?

I've learned how to express myself in my own way.  Sometimes you have a lot in your mind, and desperately want to tell your friends, but you just so clumsy in speaking, and can not make others see your points.

Which scene or song or any part of the movie that you like the best? Talk about it.

The poem scene beside the river bank.
It was very late in the night, when Jesse and Celine were taking a stroll and spending the night, they met a poet sitting by the river. The poet made a Milkshake Poem for them.

I really like this poet and the way he earn the money- make living by writing poem, he is so free and has income, it's a dream work for me.

The Giver

The Giver

lettering by Sandy Yeh

What is the movie's name?

The Giver

"In a seemingly perfect community, without war, pain, suffering, differences or choice, a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man about the true pain and pleasure of the "real" world." ~IMDb

Who is your favorite character in The Giver? and why?

The main actor, Jonas, whose best friend- Asher.

Asher did not agree on what Jonas did in the first place, because Jonas  has already broken the rules in their society. However, Asher decided to trust his friend unconditionally, he doesn't have the memory and knowledge about the outside world, he couldn't understand why Jonas act like this, but he still believes in Jonas.
I think their fiendship is what people have been looking for in our entire life.

What have you learned from The Giver?

Meryl Streep is fierce and stylish, even she is with adorable bangs in the movie.
Love her so much!!

Is there anything you want to do differently if you were the character?

If I were Rosemary, I won’t give up on being the Receiver. Being the Receiver only can feel emotions instead of preventing the happening of cruel things, such as releasing the unhealthy babies. I think I can take up the uncomfortable feelings.

Did you learn anything new about you after watching this movie?

I found that humans’ emotions are valuable and detestable at the same time. Even though we see the virtue deep in our hearts, the killings, wars and jealousy are brutal truths that we cannot stop from happening in this world.

Which scene or song or any part of the movie that you like the best? Talk about it.

My favorite part in this movie is the night when Jonas went for the baby Gabriel, he gave the baby the wonderful memories from which he received , then Gabriel stopped crying and started to laugh. In my opinion, the reaction from babies are usually the most direct and naïve, babies know the definition of the happiness, anger, sorrow and joys better than anyone else, that’s why Gabriel can understand what Jonas feels about!

Additional comments?
Nope.
